BMC Builds 880-Metre Borivali Cable-Stayed Bridge
The ₹341.59 crore Borivali flyover will create a direct link between Western Express Highway and Link Road, with a 500-metre cable-stayed section and completion planned for May 2028.

The Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation is progressing with construction of an 880-metre cable-stayed flyover in Borivali, aimed at improving traffic movement between Western Express Highway and Link Road.

The project carries an estimated cost of ₹341.59 crore and forms part of the broader road connectivity improvements planned for Mumbai's western suburbs.

Its primary objective is to provide an alternative to the congested Dattapada Road corridor.

Three Major Traffic Junctions to Be Bypassed

The existing east-west route requires motorists to navigate Rajendra Nagar Junction, Dattapada Cross Road Junction and the T-junction near Suswagat Hotel.

These intersections create repeated traffic interruptions along an important local road connection.

The proposed flyover will allow through traffic to bypass these junctions and move more directly between the two major road corridors.

The structure will extend from the eastern approach of General Cariappa ROB towards Western Express Highway.

Key Project Specifications

The flyover will have a total length of 880 metres, including a 500-metre cable-stayed section.

Its width will vary between 15.3 metres and 21.5 metres along the alignment.

The landing point is planned approximately 70 metres before Western Express Highway in Borivali East.

The route will also connect with General Cariappa ROB and the Kora Kendra flyover, improving continuity towards Link Road.

Future Links to Coastal Road and Thane Tunnel

Beyond local traffic relief, the Borivali flyover has been planned to support future connectivity with two major infrastructure projects.

These include the northern section of the Mumbai Coastal Road and the Thane–Borivali Twin Tunnel.

The proposed integration could make Borivali an important interchange location for movement between Mumbai's western suburbs and Thane.

For developers and channel partners, these connections are relevant when evaluating the long-term accessibility of residential projects in Borivali and nearby locations.

Construction Reaches Advanced Foundation Stage

BMC has reported that nearly 70% of foundation and substructure work is complete.

Construction of the superstructure is underway, with the project scheduled for completion in May 2028.

The remaining construction programme will determine whether the flyover becomes operational within the targeted period.

Implications for Developers and Brokers

Improved road connectivity can become an important factor in residential project positioning, particularly in established suburbs where traffic congestion affects daily travel.

Developers in Borivali East and West may benefit from improved access between the Western Express Highway corridor and western residential neighbourhoods.

For property brokers, the project provides an infrastructure development to monitor when discussing future accessibility with buyers.

Any specific travel-time savings should be assessed after the flyover becomes operational rather than treated as guaranteed today.

SANDEEP SADH'S TAKE: Better east-west connectivity is important for Borivali's residential market. Brokers should track the May 2028 deadline and the proposed links to the Coastal Road and Thane tunnel when advising long-term buyers.
